Cooking for variety
As with all outdoor sports, food is extremely important when trekking. It allows you to regain your strength with dishes that are often both calorific and nutritious. We strongly advise you not to skip any meals, and even to snack in between! For snacks, there's no need to cook. On the other hand, at breakfast, lunch or dinnertime, cooking allows you to add variety to your meals. It also means you can enjoy a good hot meal to warm you up when you're bivouacking at high altitude or during the cold season.
Today's kitchen equipment is high-performance. In other words, they are both lightweight, so as not to weigh down your rucksack, and efficient, so as not to waste too much time. Perfect for regaining your strength and boosting your spirits with good food!
Meals or food boxes?
A popote is a small saucepan designed for cooking in a bivouac, camping or in your van. It can be placed on a stove or wood fire, and is perfect for cooking or heating water for freeze-dried meals. Available in all materials. Titanium is a fashionable material for its properties: it's ultra-light and strong.
Food boxes can be isothermal, which is useful for transporting hot meals. It can also be used for everyday lunches at work. It's a good alternative to the stove-pot combo for those who don't like to cook.
Wide choice of stoves
There are several options for cooking with your stove. Make a small fire (which can sometimes be complicated) or opt for the stove. It's simpler and quicker. There are a number of stoves to choose from:
- Wood stoves: for small branches or pine cones
- Gas stoves: compact, light and powerful.
- These are the stoves most often used by outdoor enthusiasts
- Alcohol stoves: all-weather stoves
- Multi-fuel stoves: also all-weather stoves, these are also very efficient.
We could also mention self-heating systems or solar cookers, an alternative sometimes sought after by certain enthusiasts.
