Victorinox is a knife brand from Switzerland. Victorinox became famous for its Swiss Army Knife, and has continued to export its knives around the world for over a century.
The story began over a century ago, in 1884. Like most companies, the beginnings were artisanal. Karl Elsener, the founder, made knives in his workshop in Ibach-Schwyz, Switzerland. It wasn't until 1891 that production really took off, with the first deliveries of the Model 1890 for the Swiss army. This oak-wood knife was equipped with several tools, including a can opener and a saw. The famous Couteau d'Officier followed in 1897.
The Victorinox brand was not registered until 1921. It's a catchword for Victoria (Karl Elsener's mother) and Inox, the material used to make Swiss Army knives.
Little by little, the Swiss Army Knife became more and more popular. Particularly during the Second World War, when many American soldiers bought Victorinox Swiss Army knives as souvenirs. The Swiss brand went on to sell internationally and become a true benchmark.
Today, the Victorinox brand stands for quality, functionality, innovation and iconic design. Its logo, a red shield with a white cross, is recognizable among many others. The brand produces over 7 million pocket knives and 9 million pocket tools.
Victorinox Swiss Army knives are very popular thanks to their many functions. Magnifier, saw, screwdriver, blade and corkscrew are just some of the functions that can be incorporated into Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. The lightness of these knives makes them an all-purpose accessory, a must-have in the car or on expeditions.
