The ProLite™ Apex is a self-inflating mattress designed by Therm-A-Rest. Like all the American brand's mattresses, this one is no exception, being compact and lightweight. It is slightly larger than a Nalgene water bottle (around 33 cm long for the Regular model) when folded. It weighs 620 g for the Regular, 790 g for the Regular Wide and 850 g for the Large. To inflate the mattress, simply open the valve and blow. Unlike traditional inflatable mattresses, the ProLite Apex inflates 3 times faster. Hence the claim "self-inflating mattress". The non-return valve prevents rapid deflation, even when left open. Even so, you need to close it again to avoid any loss. Conversely, if you've over-inflated your mattress, simply open the valve. The small amount of air that escapes will help to make it more comfortable.

To deflate, open the WingLock valve and roll up your ProLite Apex mattress. The air is released and the mattress compresses back to its original size. It's a welcome speed-up, so you don't lose energy before leaving camp for another day's hiking.
