The Arcturus Outdoor Survival Blanket is a must-have backpack accessory.
Its 4 eyelets make it extremely versatile. It can be used as a tarp, emergency shelter, ground sheet, survival blanket and much more. With paracord, it's easy to hang from a tree. What's more, it's compact and lightweight. So you can easily slip it into a backpack.
This thermal survival blanket is made of polypropylene on one side and Mylar on the other. Polypropylene is renowned for being tough and waterproof. So you won't risk tearing your tent if you use it as a footprint, and it will protect you from rain and wind if you use it as a blanket. Mylar is a polyester film that reflects 90% of body heat. It's an excellent thermal barrier. Its light gray color makes it easy to spot by rescue workers in an emergency.
Finally, the Survival Blanket by Arcturus comes with a storage bag. This is very useful if you don't want to get your rucksack dirty or wet when storing your blanket. For ultra-light hikers, you can do without the cover. You'll save 50 g.

Published Dec 06, 2023 at 08:31 amQuite stiff and a bit heavy, but that's what I was looking for (it folds easily and neatly: the folds stay in place), I don't have the necessary hindsight yet, but after a few uses I think the quality is there (I've worn out a few Grabners that seem less robust: delamination, tears etc...), it comes in a zipped cover of the same material that can be used for another purpose.
